Using Twitter to Market your Business

Well I must say as more and more businesses sign up on Twitter, it naturally becomes more of a marketing tool... The content of the micro-blogs seemed personal at first -- twitter was never designed for business... But twitter is being used more and more for getting out your marketing messages.

The mistake business owners make is using it to SPAM other people or they only tweet about their business and they don't connect first on a social level.

I think a good rule of thumb is tweet about your business 1 out of 4 tweets you send. Here are some things to tweet about the other 3 out of 4 times:

1) Ask a question -- business or personal
2) Tell people where you are in the world or what you are doing
3) Review another business
4) Re-tweet useful tweets
5) Send advice or useful blogs on as links...


Finally, when you are tweeting about your company make sure it isn't just about the sale that expires this week. Instead imagine that everyone following you is a family member or friend. Ask them if they know anyone who could take advantage of the last week of the sale at your company. Ask them if they know anyone in your area or industry of focus.
