Who can you care about? in a cold online world where no one cares about you. Ask yourself "who can i care for?" You have to give to get.
Give something of real value to the world and you will reap the joy of creation, give gifts and you will receive favor, but the best giving of all is to give of yourself. Take 30 seconds to send someone an inspiring message.
Or EGAD! interact with a human and tell your waitress you sincerely appreciate her service. And smile at everyone you see. I'm tired of the "smile at one person a day" namby pamby talk. Toss a genuine smile to anyone that appears in your viewfinder. People might think you're crazy, (that's a compliment) but i guarantee you that you will make a difference in a-lot of peoples day.
Ive read The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris four times now (isn't that going against what the book says to do? lol). And Every time I read it I find out something new. Getting my head around the intricate system for freeing time, and automating income is a heavy job. I guess I'm not as good as Tim at deconstructing complex tasks into simple actionable items.....or am I?
Let's say this: If you tell yourself you're not as good as Tim, you're not as good as Tim (or whoever), but if you tell yourself something like "we are all cut from the same cloth, and Tim is no different than anyone else in this respect" then miraculously you begin to "Get it" and pieces fall into place, and suddenly you are applying the principals in the book, and GASP, they work!
If you tell yourself you can't do something you can't do something. Simple as that. If you tell yourself you can do something, you can do just that. Very Simple.
Most people (not you, you know better) think this is hocus pocus positive smack talk that somebody chants to themselves as they curl up in a corner and wet themselves. When in fact, this method of thinking is just as true today as it was 50 years ago when David Schwartz Wrote, "The magic of thinking Big"
Here's the truth: The quality of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts. Buying into anything outside of your best self is ludicrisy.
What is success? is there any one approach to it? Be radical, because it seems to me that there is a plethora (that is no longer a big word) of business motivation writers and success writers, each with a different (but inherently similar) approach to success.
It seems to me that if you have a goal, have the initiative to start, and have the focus to pursue the goal, then you can pretty much use whatever means you can think of to achieve it.
It comes down to how insane are you?
Are you insane enough to engage in absurdities all day and night about outlandish ideas that "realistic" people would never pursue?
Are you ridiculous enough to get up at 5 A.M. with a fire in your gut and the tenacity of a tiger woods?
I've observed that the faster you become insane, and the level to which you become insane determine your success.
But these days you have to be REALLY crazy, the dicing of the world via Google has served us up hundreds of thousands (millions?) of mini-markets.
And as my good friend (at least online...) Seth Godin likes to say, you have to be the purple cow. I say be the purple cow piloting a giant flesh eating naked robot that's on fire and handing out money.
For every sub-culture you are involved in, and are passionate about, there are hundreds of sub-cultures a thousand times as large as yours that exist soley for the pupose of time wasting/meaningless pursuits. Like online games.
Lose the self-important attitude and drop down on your knees (myself included) and thank God that you have at least just one person who will listen to the crap that comes out of your brain.
For every blog post the center of the universe writes, a child dies in a third world country, a person is declared homeless because of the financial fall-out, somebody loses a loved one, etc.
Take your eyes off of your own gleaming ass for one moment to realize that in the scope of things we all should be happy for the simplest things, like the fact that we even have air to breath, water to drink, cars to drive (for how long?) and people to care about.
If you're not taking 10 minutes every morning to write in your journal (you have one..right?) about all the things you're thankful about, you're missing out on a huge opportunity for self reflection and growth. Get with it.
Ask yourself if you're being humble enough, caring enough, and if you're giving enough.
Don't waste leadership. Everyone is a leader in some respect. If you are a bipedal being consuming oxygen you are capable of showing compassion, empathy, and leadership.
Never miss a chance to champion a human being. Ever. Even the simplest things like thanking your barista as you leave your favorite coffee shop is showing leadership. I believe so deeply that leadership is about service. Serve your fellow humans where ever you show up and you will reap the rewards.
"Ideation without execution is nothing more than dillision" - Robin Sharma
I'm taking this post to tell you abou the above quote. Absorb it. Apply it.
That's it.
I have spent the last day truly cleaning, and eliminating objects of minutia. Doing a clean sweep. I have scaled my life down to this simple list.
1.Computer
2.Clothes
3. Books
I threw out everything that wasn't mission critical for my task at hand. All that crap that we keep in random boxes, drawers, or on shelves that we say we will put to good use, never gets used. I'm talking all my bulky CD's, DVD's, papers, magazines, articles, notebooks, binders, and yes even a jump rope.
Everything that was on CD or DVD i can get online, or rip to my computer. All those papers with all that useless information that i say i'll get to one day, and never do. Gone.
Anything that can't be stored digitally is not important, and anything that doensn't have to do with completing your main objective is trivial. All those trivial activities, pertaining to school, day job, errands, whatever, 90% or more of it can be eliminated. You have to ask yourself, "is this really important?" usually it's not. Any physical objects that aren't absolutely required for your highest output activites are just taking up space.
This is a very liberating process. Of course some of these useless objects will tug at your heartstrings for a few minutes, but once its in the recycle bin, you feel really, really good about having one less Our lady Peace cd case around.
When you eliminate the things that need to be eliminated (which is almost everything) you can focuse on the one task that you need to be focusing on. For me, my mission critical is spreading the message of the world class brand i represent. That's it. My day job is merely something that i put up with until my love child is producing sufficiantly to allow me to walk away from the job. Which is soon. But that is only because i have eliminated all the static that sits between me and my goal. Now the only static left is the static in my brain, God help us all...
I'm reading "The magic of thinking big" by David Shwartz over a cup of coffee. An essential read for anyone planning on setting foot in the extraordinary.
Be shockingly committed to personal growth. Don't make excuses. if you're not reading at least 30 minutes every day from mind expanding books, you'll be left in the dust.
When facing challenges, reading a great book full of insight and inspiration from a great mind is the difference maker. Working through challenges in this way is the way to win, big-time.
It all really starts with a monstrous hunger for personal growth, staying on the fast track by reading very specific books for what you are trying to accomplish. I'm one of the biggest advocate of reading you'll find , but reading without purpose is a waste. Only read books that add value to your positive pursuits. I'm building a network marketing company, I read things like "The magic of thinking big" because it gets me out of bed in the morning with a fire in my belly.
Don't take no for an answer, in anything that you're passionate about. If it's your dream, and you're faced with challenges, be completely unreasonable, absolutely never take no for an answer, if it's vision deep inside of you. Weak minds and fearful hearts will not understand this, and they will challenge you in your pursuits. Words based on lesser visions will have no weight on those with true vision.
The best way to stay on your game is engaging in a personal growth plan, with shocking commitment.
Expand your library
Engage your mind
Sharpen your mind against brilliant minds
Pick yourself up
Don't take no for an answer. Period.
Here are a few of the blogs i read that contribute to my intense sessions of dancing in the mirror every morning (out of excitement mind you), and really keep the juices flowing for me.
1. Seth Godin's blog
A-lot of you may know about this one. If you do not read Seth's blog on a daily basis, for the love of god start. The man is an idea-gusher and one takes far more than marketing tactics away from each post.
2. Robin Sharma's blog
Robin Sharma is ranked #2 in the top 30 leadership guru's, with Tom Peter's and Jack Welch. He is a witty writer and writes on leadership and self-development. His book, "The Greatness Guide" is one of the few books i have read that screams to be read again and again.
3. Blog of Tim Ferris
Tim Ferris is the author of "The Four Hour Work Week" quite possibly one of the greatest manifestations of uber-excellent ideas on the planet. His Posts are long, and come every three days or so, but this blog is the epitome of lifestyle design info.
I am convinced. The reason we exist is to resonate with the world, and utilize the unique energy that resides within us. Whether or not you agree with me is another matter. But if you try to argue against the fact that this is prominent in our pursuits in life....i guess things look differently when you live under a bridge.
The message here is this: "Construct the empire in your mind."
You are the contractor, foreman, and builder of your life vision. Now here's the question. Are you a decent builder, a good builder, or an excellent builder?
Think about the quality of materials you are putting into your life project. How closely do you watch what you say, think, and do? The path of an excellent builder is one who is world class at life. This means mastering your mind, your mouth, and your body.
A good source to start doing that is books. Or really A book. Read, The Four Hour Work Week, by Tim Ferris. Please. www.fourhourworkweek.com
To not align every thought that goes through your head with the pursuit of some worthwhile goal is insanity ( sometimes I'm quite insane).
Action on a secondly basis is the goal. And THAT is absurd, but absurdity is the realm in which we need to dwell in.
"those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible."
...Don't buy it. Go higher.
Only buy into going bigger, and more excellent. Whatever you're thinking now..you can think bigger. Become more splendid.
Spend an hour every morning with your mind. Greatness starts from within. Plan your day to a world class standard.
Engage every minute of your existence with the pursuit of some ideal. Never Arrive.
Evin if you accomplish everything you have ever imagined, that is just one step on the JOURNEY of life.
You have more in you. you are where you are now so you can go through the process of getting where you want to go.
Study daily, surround yourself with the greatest minds of your chosen field. If not physically, than in mind with great books.
Any goal outside of becoming the best is trivial.
That may sound harsh, but the web has taken the world down to microscopic mini-universes. Becoming the absolute best in your market is fairly achievable.
I apologize to my reader (Santa Claus?) for taking my sweet time with this new post.
I just finished reading (literally) , Meatball Sundae, by Seth Godin. This is a Phenomenal book.
If you're trying to market anything really, and you haven't read meatball sundae, you're behind. I don't care what kind of title you have accompanying your name, read it.
Seth identified 14 trends that make up this "new marketing" e-wave. The wave that we all need to be on, the wave that this site is attempting to capture. Seth says that companies need to be on-board with at least some of these new trends to capitalize on the new marketing.
Network Marketing is a fantastic business model to utilize these trends with. Especially Zrii. Reading this book helped cement some of the ideas i've been thinking of, and these trends are right in line with what we are doing.
Here are the trends i identified most relevant to Zrii. Read the book and tell me if you think I'm on par.
