about Samantha Marq

Heiress scandals make good copy. But every once in a while a rich girl does good, and that deserves some ink, too. Take Samantha Marq, heiress to the S.C. Johnson fortune (S.C. Johnson makes those cleaning products we all use - you know, like Windex?). After growing up outside of the spotlight in Virginia Beach, she's come to LA to launch her music career. And she's not riding on anybody's coattails: Marq is releasing her album on her own, using innovative marketing and new media to get her music to the masses. She's smart (Pepperdine grad), she's savvy, and she's got pipes! Releasing the tracks from her album The Evolution of Love in Dysfunction one at a time via her website, SamanthaMarq.com, Marq is unveiling what equates to musical diary entries in sequential order to chronicle a relationship's highs and lows - and the eventual revelation about the necessity of self-love - through the eyes of a young woman. Her sound can be best described as female Justin Timberlake, straddling the lines between pop, dance and R&B, and each single is being packaged with its own multimedia experience, both on her site and via online partnerships. Marq's first single, the girl power anthem "Super Girl," is currently being promoted through a gaming experience in MySpace Music's Hit Machine game on OMGPOP.com, and in late March/early April, she will be releasing a motion comic video for the track inked by Marvel Comics artist Alvin Lee. "Super Girl" debuted at #3 on the European DJ Charts in December of 2009 and peaked at #1. The track was also featured as the opening song (to which America's Best Dance Crew's The Beat Freaks performed) for Anjelah Johnson's one-hour Comedy Central stand-up special, That's How We Do It.
